Corinth Baptist Church began in the year 1928, when God inspired a small group of Christian men and women to move out in His name. Starting out in a small house, the church building was on the corner of 4th and White Sands Boulevard, then Pennsylvania Avenue. The property on which the present church stands was purchased from the school system.
Theme: Lord, we want to be the vessel you work through. Therefore, bless us indeed and enlarge our territory. 1 Chronicles 4:10
Corinth Baptist Church began in the year 1928, when God inspired a small group of Christian men and women to move out in His name. Starting out in a small house, she has grown to the present physical building we have today, and a membership that far surpasses the number in that first small group. However, we are fully aware that we are standing on the shoulders of those pioneer Christians who had the spirit and courage to begin. It was in their hearts that the first light was shed that established the church in the hearts of men. The force was so powerful and great that this church became and is serving as a beacon in this community.
The church organism, like all other organisms must grow according to her nature. God and God alone, using men as instruments can cause a church to grow. It has truly been God who has brought Corinth this far on the way and we give Him all of the praise and glory. For without His divine guidance, the Corinth that you see today would not exist.
Serenely, solidly and stately, like a sentinel in the midst of the fast movement of time, she has played her part in helping to ease burdens, solving problems and meeting the demands of many of these individuals; offering Christian fellowship, spiritual guidance, teaching, training, and love: a church where you will always find a warm welcome.
Today, after ninety plus years of Christian service, Corinth is a symbol of the “city that sits on a hill” with the light of her various ministries shedding rays throughout this community, state, nation and even in foreign fields-a beacon beckoning to all who have a need of her love and protection.
Corinth Baptist Church began an expansion to further its commitment to community and outreach with a ground breaking of a new educational building in 2007.
Corinth Baptist Church Educational Building hosts classes, workshops and fellowship and is a symbol of faith in the historic Chihuahuita neighborhood (Alamogordo's oldest and most diverse neighborhood.)
Pastor James E. Forney had a vision to build an Educational Building for Corinth Baptist Church. The purpose of the building was to welcome the challenge to accommodate a growing and vibrant community to assist the Alamogordo High School with a credit recovery program. This program had to have accredited teachers who tutored and graded student’s assignments that did not have enough credits to graduate.
The Educational Building also accommodates classrooms for Men’s Bible Study, Philippian Women Bible Study, Deacon’s Meetings, library, Pastor’s Office, Secretarial Office, 1st Lady Office, and Sunday School for all ages.
The building also welcomes members and visitors are able to attend spiritual classes for the New Hope District Association the first week of June and the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist State Convention the third week of July on multiple occasions. The building is designed to be secure, yet welcoming and inclusive, and acts as a gateway to Christian education.
