Pastor James E. Forney
Pastor James E. Forney is celebrating his 33rd year as Pastor of Corinth Baptist Church. He was born March 13, 1946 in Johnson City, Tennessee. His family later moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he attended school. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force in August 1963 and served his country for 27 years. He retired from active-duty May 1, 1990, as a Chief Master Sergeant.
Reverend Forney has an Associate Degree from Western Oklahoma State University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University. He attended Liberty University and Andersonville Baptist Seminary. Pastor Forney is an insightful leader and builder. He firmly believes that quality learning and worship facilities enhance the growth and knowledge base of his congregation and the broader community.
A dedicated pastor, he is completely committed to his church congregation; and, he also commits to volunteer for several key organizations in the Alamogordo community. He is a Past President of the local chapter of the Otero County Branch of the NAACP. He is a former moderator of the New Hope District Association; and, and he served as President of the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist State Convention for sixteen years. Rev. Forney is a past president of the United Way of Otero County; served as board chairman for Alamogordo’s Big Brother/Big Sisters; treasurer for COPE (Center of Protective Environment); and, he is a past president of the White Sands Rotary Club.
The responsibilities of the pastor are that he be a shepherd of the flock. He is to be the ever ready, sympathizing and helpful friend to all. He is to guide the flock into godliness and service to Christ. He is to be the preacher and teacher of God’s word. For though a pastor, he must still be a preacher, a Gospel herald to his flock. The minister is, perhaps first of all, a teacher. Pastor Forney is living proof that God chooses, guards, and guides His servants.
1 Corinthians 2:9 (NKJV) says: But as it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

Pastor James is married to his lovely bride of 52 years, Sister Neva Forney. They are the proud parents of two children and have been equally blessed with two granddaughters. More than anything Pastor Forney loves proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
